Learn, Baby Learn

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then how much is a video worth?

Don’t try to answer that. It’s a rhetorical question.

It’s also a way to introduce WeSeed’s new videos, which are now up in the Learn section.

“What’s that?” you say. “WeSeed has a Learn section?”

Yes, we do. There, you can gain a solid footing in the basics of the market, like how to judge a stock, the importance of a P/E ratio (and what a P/E ratio is), and much, much more.

But back to the videos: They’re a way for us to communicate the WeSeed message in a fun, engaging, informative way (or so we hope).  We hired local improv stalwart Tim Ryder to do the work for us, and we couldn’t be happier with his work.

Here’s the video for “What Is a Company?” We love Tim’s little asides, like the one at about :30. But clearly we’re a little biased.

There are five videos up now: “The Uses of Money,” “Function of a Bank,” “What Is a Company?”, “What Affects Share Price?”, and “Judging a Stock.” But don’t worry, we’ll put up more.

And as for the title of this post, it refers to the chorus of this song. Enjoy.

WeSeed Learn is Live!

WeSeed is proud to announce the arrival of the much-anticipated Learn section on the site. With this new addition comes a slew of new information and features, so here’s a quick breakdown of how the whole thing works. First of all, you’ll notice that you can finally click on the Learn tab, and that “coming soon!” has finally been taken down. If you click on that tab, this is what you’ll see first:

On that left toolbar is your report card, where you can see the progress you’ve made through all of our different sections of Learn information. Think of it as your map. No one will take your car keys away if you don’t pass all our quizzes on the first try, so don’t get too worried. As you check out more articles and learn even more, this is where you’ll be able to see how far you’ve gotten.

On the far right is a glossary of a financial terms that you may hear on TV or see in The Wall Street Journal articles. These are the terms that have always looked familiar but you’ve never been clear on what they meant. Well we’re hoping this glossary helps continue to demystify the stock market, and as you come across these words you’ll realize that you know more than you thought you did about the market (just like we always said you did). If you find that some words are missing or you have any questions, don’t hesitate to leave us some feedback. Your questions helped us design all the new features, so know that every bit of feedback you send helps us make the site even better.

The team suggests that you start with the first level by clicking on Level 1 just below “We Feed Your Head”. If you think you might be a little more advanced than that, check out the list of what topics are included in each level to see where you fit into the picture (below).

Clicking on any of those subjects will take you straight to an article about that topic. So if you click on “What affects share price?” you’ll learn about what kind of events will make a company’s share price go up and down, and there’s even a case study to give you some real-world examples.

If you’re still a little lost, there’s always the trusty “How to learn” button, just like the “How to be social” one on the WeSocial page. And if you need a little extra help, feel free to stop by the feedback button again. We’re also working to make the FAQs even more helpful, so check those out in the meantime and see if there’s an answer to your question there.
